Gordon,
You can m= ake that two data points.  The same thing happened to me.  The sol= enoid sold as a starter solenoid was really continuous duty. It stuck closed= after some 400 hours of flying.  Pretty impressive actually.  Unf= ortunately it toasted the starter. I did take it apart and it was severely p= ot-marked.  I also pulled apart a real starter solenoid and different i= s impressive.  Much heavier spring, and correspondingly high current, i= n the starter solenoid.

Two weeks ago I had what turned out to be a stuck starter soleno= id.  I had been troubleshooting my noise issue and had done a series of= startups and shutdowns.  Four over 20 minutes or so.  On the last= shutdown, I momentarily grounded the mags as normal and pulled the throttle= and mixture.  Prop kept going=E2=80=A6.thought it was what we used to c= all dieseling.  Turned off mags=E2=80=A6still running.  Fuel off..= still running.  Master off killed it.  Master back on turned prop= again, and quickly blew the fuse on my Vertical Power system at the main ba= ttery.  I thought I had a problem with the dreaded starter adapter, but= that looked OK.
