Continental's recommendation is most certainly to NOT use Hoppe's No. 9 on =
the injectors. =20
The maintenance manuals call out lacquer thinner, MEK or acetone as preferr=
ed solvents.

I may be wrong (someone will correct me if I am), but I seem to remember th=
e Continental rep suggesting Hoppes #9 is a not a good idea for use on the =
injectors. Hoppes #9 is a copper solvent, and IIRC the Continental rep said=
 the injectors are made partially from brass, which is a copper-zinc alloy.

This is what I'm using to clean the injectors in the IO550.  So far, it is =
inexpensive and effective.  The $32 harborfreight ultrasonic cleaner is jus=
t fine for me.   It does have a short cycle which is OK for frequent inspec=
tions.  The finished product is clean outside and spotless inside.   The la=
st photo shows the troublesome deposits on my injectors.  The shot is looki=
ng into the injector from the engine side of the nozzle so that's the area =
where the jet expands and exits into the intake manifold.  This #2 is still=
 showing some black after an hour of repeated cycles in the bath.   These i=
njectors were obviously quite dirty and overdue for cleaning.
