If having the engine quit bothers you, just keep an eye on the fuel pressure gauge when near empty on the tank. Pressure will be solid until the first bubbles pass thru the line, indicated by a momentary pressure drop. Running one tank essentially empty is better so all remaining fuel is in the fullest tank. Sometime your plan might go in the dumper and leave you in the air with minimum fuel, maybe with a high workload, stress, etc. It happened to me years ago. Knowing all usable fuel is in the tank you are flying on could save the day.
