I'm a PP-ASEL IFR with 165 hrs TT.
From what I heard, the ES is a lot more forgiving than the 320/360 and a
lot more forgiving than the IV. By the way, the 360 is a lot more
forgiving with the MKII tail.
I belive the Lancair factory can have you test fly an ES if you can get
there. Although I have just 165 hrs, I played with dozens of flight
simulators at home in every kind of airplane available, and never had a
problem mastering any of them, I decided I'm up to the chalenge on
flying my Lancair 360 after taking lots of dual time training.
IFR like flying discipline will be very usefull. Considering the
relatively minor changes made from ES to the Columbia, except for spin
resistance, I think you just need to be ready to fly a lot dual before
going solo on your aircraft.

I'm hopeping to have sounded cautiosly optimistic.
