I've got a question for you IV and IV-P builders who may have had to fix an
uneven landing gear. Mine is offset to the left in the gear well so that
the right tire touches the elevator pp tunnel and the right tire is close to
the wheel well cutout. Sjef Brugemann went thru a major fix to rid his kit
of this problem. He re-drilled and bushed 32 holes in his trunnion bearing
block mounts (GM-451 01,02,03&04) to realign his gear. It is now true to
the world so to speak. My misalignment is less than his but still
substantial. I want to get new inboard bearing blocks and have my machinist
friend move the holes about .060 to .070". Forward on the left and aft on
the right block. I don't want bushings if possible. Mark Mankhe wants me
to take the spacer out from between the axle/foot joint on the right and
move it to the left (double it up there) and try that as a fix. That would
move the tires in the well and probably help the problem but it just sounds
funky. I would sure appreciate any input from those of you who have
experience here. The axle spacer switch sounds easy but not too neat. The
re-drilling of the bearing blocks may risk other problems if not done
correctly... if the parts are available.
Thanks,
Walter Dodson IV-P 50%?
