What I always do on and IFR to VFR on top flight = is advise ATC once clear of clouds that I'm requesting to cancel IFR and = proceed VFR. Once that's approved, they give me the option of = continuing flight following, in which case I'd keep my assigned squawk = and frequency. Once I'm clear of congested airspace, I ask to cancel = flight following, at which time I'm told, "Squawk VFR, frequency change = approved".
