My. My. Hearsay and mind reading have blossomed fully. From my poltroon
position, stalls are for horses. Discussion of same may continue unabated,
although it often loses loft on its own without any diversion to drag it
down.
Verbal lubrication of leakology notwithstanding, criticism of Continental
engines usually twists about starter adapters and alternator interfaces that
seem to be more troublesome than rings or belts.
I have taken two Cont IO 360s thru premature TBO and bought factory new
during the period where "digital processing" meant that engines were built with
fingers and toes by tyros after everyone with experience was, uh, retired. One
motor was "blue-tagged" and even then required inspection before 25 hours of
in-flight use - once beyond that, NP (no problem).
Also, let us not confuse leaks with consumption or breather blow, the
latter coating the belly with camo unless one had the foresight to use a hue of
burnt-oil for the underside paint color.
Carry on,

suspect someone (actually, a person known to us :-) was trying to divert the
LML discussion away from the thread on stalls... Why else would someone
suggest that our good Continental engines leak or burn
oil...

[LML] Re: Oil leaks?
My continental with 400 hours on it, uses less
than 1 quart between oil changes. But I had others and those were using
between 1 quart each 8-15 hours.

Scott, I think I remember you telling me that Continentals leak more oil than
they consume 100L. That's what convinced me to buy a Lycoming, they don't
leak!
