A caution to all.  Because of the math that underlies all this flat plate area calculation stuff, be advised that a 1% error in the true air speed number yields a 3%  error in the calculated flat plate area with a similar high sensitivity to the HP estimate.  So take it all with a grain of salt.

Fred, ignore my question regarding chart interpretation.   I went back to your January 2009 document where you explained that the chart was in statute MPH and that it had to be corrected to sea level using the approximation of 1% per thousand feet.   Doing that takes me to a more believable 1.8 sq ft of flat plate area for my IV.   Now onto the cowl flaps and plenum.   Probably dimensioned returns at these speeds but if I could get 5 knots I would be thrilled.

Thanks for all that you have shared from your vast knowledge!
