I think everyone with an= iPad would agree that the 15-25 bucks a month for the data plan pays off 10= 0 times over with the flexibility it gives you ( assuming you fly relatively= often cross country). I can't count the number of times it has really been= convenient. For filing a flight plan change, checking notams, winds, email= , and telling your wife you will be home for dinner via iChat while sitting= in the airplane getting gas or in the FBO bathroom in the middle of Kansas.= =20 As to the faux GPS, it's been discussed on here before if you search. The G= PS is real, but it uses cell tower positioning data for where to find the sa= tellites and ring in quickly as opposed to the Almanac/Ephemeris data in an o= utboard GPS. If you ring in on the ground and take off without powering dow= n the GPS, you will track the GPS signals up high all day and don't need an o= utboard one. However, if you turn it off to save battery and then wait a wh= ile, it takes a long time to ring in ( too long to be useful, like to monito= r an approach). =20 I've used foreflight since it was released and absolutely love it for everyt= hing except complex fuel planning. If it had what FltPlan.com offers in thi= s regard, I might never look at anything else. I don't have any experience w= ith WingX since Foreflight has been so good. I fly cross country all of the= time and literally can't imagine flying without it. =20 Get one with 3G and with either software bundle you will love it,guaranteed.= Bob Rickard IV-P On Dec 13, 2011, at 11:22 AM, Terrence O'Neill wrote:= > Randy, thanks.
