Don’t be penny wise
and dollar foolish. If my hoses
looked like that, I would have replaced them long before now. I can’t believe you even asked about
this. Do yourself a favor and do
not cover them up … just throw them away (after measuring the lengths and
fitting sizes)!

As
previously posted, my hoses, after 16 years, are shedding the outer rubber
coating. That coating is a very thin rubber that has become brittle, and
is flaking off, revealing the white weave material. See picture #1.
I
have begun replacing the rubber coating with rescue tape, part #01-00990 in the
Aircraft Spruce catalog. That tape is amazing stuff. It is every
bit as tough and flexible as the original rubber coating. See picture
#2. I have finished the hoses for the main gear and will do the nose gear
hoses in time.
I
have no other issues with my hydraulic system. I have minor seepage here
and there and top up the reservoir a bit each annual.
