Okay, I give up.  How DO you get the forward elevator pushrod into position with the seatback installed?

My elevator pushrod has been previously installed.  I am now fitting the seat back and cutting the hole in the seat back for the forward elevator pushrod.  Before going too far, I tried to put the pushrod back in.  I cannot make it go!  If I put the rod into the tailcone over the hat shelf, I cannot get the front end low enough to go through the hole in the seatback -- it binds up between the hat shelf in the front, and the tailcone ceiling in the back.  The hole in the seatback would have to be extended about 5 inches above the top of the console to make it work.

I have not tried removing the elevator idler assembly (the thingy with the bobweight attached) and shoving the back end of the pushrod thru there.  Is that the trick?  What a pain that would be!

Has anyone ever had to remove that pushrod? I mean, if it's a real bear -- but possible -- that might be acceptable if you never really need to do it.
