This subject has been published in past issues of the factory
newsletter (Lancair Mail Newsletter) and Lancair Network News (precursor to the
LML). The factory recommended using light paint colors, preferably
white or pastels; no reds or metallic's for the e-glass airframes previous
to carbon fiber construction.

Is 140 degress to hot? I thought these skins
could handle much more than that.
I don't know about the antenna effectiveness, but I would be
concerned about the skin temperature reaching the transition temperature
while the plane is sitting in the summer sun on the
tarmac. Structural failure would be my concern.
In a test, the factory measured their red (non-Metallic) 320 skin
temperature at 140 degrees.

If one was to paint a Lancair silver
metallic paint would that affect the internal comm antennas or any of the
effectiveness of the antennas in the aircraft?
