Because they are inboard, it takes more flap deflection (and thus more drag) to correct for this condition. I know - I tried it on my 235. Charles, when you said, "In straight and level cruise, I need tokeep my foot on the left rudder pedal." Did you mean that using left rudder keeps the plane from rolling right, or that the ball is to the left? If the ball is to the left, I would recommend adjusting the rudder trim (bend the trim tab if it is a static tab, electric trim if you have a deluxe example of a 360) for cruise flight. Rudder forces are much less in slow flight and represent a much smaller portion of a typical flight profile for Lancairs, so personally I would rather be in trim in cruise and worry about minding the rudders on approach / departure. However, if trimming the rudder places the ball out of center, then you are back to correcting roll trim. Both of my Lancairs (first 235, now 320) required aileron trim in flight; and pitching my prop higher plus electronic ignition raised my maximum cruise enough on my 235 that I needed to increase the size of the aileron trim tab. I don't understand all of the flight dynamics such as P-factor, etc., but empirically I am certain that there is some built-in correction for prop effects that causes aileron trim to change at different speeds and power settings.
