I was doing the second annual condition inspection on my LIVPT and found that my TruTrak pitch servo was just about to fall apart.  The back plate (opposite side from the control arm) is held in place by four small, stainless flathead screws (1/16" hex).  Two of the four screws had fallen out and the remaining two were loose.

I phoned TruTrak and they said that they had seen that problem with some older servos (not clear precisely what this means) and were now using blue Loctite to keep the screws in place.  They also said some people had used longer, fully threaded mounting bolts and put a locknut on the protruding end to secure them in place.

In any case, this is something that should be carefully checked at the annual inspection.  Or if you haven't looked in a while, I'd recommend having a look now.  It might not be nice to have one of your autopilot servos come apart in flight.

Good flying, Clark Still (N750S, 190 hrs, KPOU)
