Still more headaches to come! I don't = have much more hair to pull out. Any things to keep in mind as I soldier = on! Cheers Doug >>> LHenney 5/26/2008 8:33 PM >>> Doug, This is an absolute "don't kill yourself" conversation. My flaps open up = to between 3/16 and 1/4" in the full down position. I have seen much bigger openings. My plane flys fine dirty with the above gaps. If you must make show quality gaps (and many have spent the hours doing this) I'd recommend several (4-5) thin flox beams gapped with the flaps in several positions. Just put a 1/16+" thick release gap strip ( I like = steel personally) between the skin and flap and pack the gap with flox. Thereafter, I'd fill between the beams with micro and sand to shape with = the long board sander. Keep the flox as your basis height. This is way more work than necessary in my opinion. The alternative to feeling good about one's flap gaps is to leave them up = at the show. I am quite tolerant of that infinitesimal feeling of shame as I raise them. This feeling get's rapidly overcome by sadness for my fellow builders who are stuck head scratching. Keep Building! There are bigger headaches to come!
