When I first saw the long trip times allowed for circuit breakers, I was shocked. That was the reason I used not just fuses, but fast-acting fuses, for all of my expensive electronic devices. Instead of waiting minutes or seconds, the circuit is shut down in milliseconds. Of course I carry spares as required by the FAA. In ten years of flying I have yet to use one. The other benefit to this approach was that for 20 or so circuits I could use a $2 fuse holder instead of a $22 circuit breaker. Disabling a circuit is done via rotation rather than pulling. Also, an LED indicates a blown or disconnected fuse.
