Unfortunately I didn't discover this before the engine was going in. With the holes for the nose gear bearings already drilled, Lancair would not take it back (understandable). The difference of type 1 and 2 is the angle of the mount cups. If you draw a line trough the cups, this line would be 30 degrees from horizontal(when viewed from the side) on type 1, and 17 or 18 degrees on type 2 (if my memory is correct). My engine is a IO360B1B and uses the type 1. I was told that the crankcase that needed the type 2 was used in early twin installations. The long type 2 mount is hanging on my wall reminding me on wasted $$, so if anybody wants it, you can have it if you take care of the freight charges. Hope this helps.
