With the newer system you usually have an engine monitor on and maybe = other things an EFIS, PFD, =85=20 when you start. =20 When you hit the starter with these electronics on you get quite a = voltage drop on the buss. This drop is often the culprit to avionics that have died during engine start. (And = NOT over voltage or voltage spikes as many have believed in the past) =20 With a 24V system you have a lot more headroom before you drive the electronics into a low voltage state. Most can handle 10-30V.
