Hi guys,
Regarding the engine quitting problem;
The trouble shooting process should begin from firewall forward because the fuel pump restores normal operation. Questions that will have a bearing on finding problem.
Does it only happen when fuel quantity @ 20gal or less?
If that's not a factor, I suspect that you have a vapor problem that is a result of poor-no cooling airflow to fuel pump, lines and gascolator. If you have assured a good cooling airflow to these units, and assuming you have adjusted fuel pressures (LO and HI) to Continental values, and it happens again, you should have the fuel pump bench checked. And have the distribution valve screen checked for contamination and smooth operation. Then clean the fuel injector nozzles. Hoppe's #9 gun cleaning solution is a good cleaner.
I would not fly the airplane until I found an explanation for the problem. Or at a minimum- insure all fuel components are examined (bench checked/ cleaned/ calibrated). Then fly with the maximum instrumentation. Fuel pressures (Metered and unmetered) and flow at a minimum.
