Those of you who haven't had the opportunity to "fly" in a military altitude 
chamber and discover your own hypoxia symptoms should be aware that these 
facilities are available to civilians.  It's a one-day training course 
including classroom instruction and finishing off with the altitude chamber 
experience.  I know they have these at Edwards AFB in southern California and 
at Wright-Patterson in Dayton Ohio.  There are others, but I don't know where 
they are.

I don't know how these are scheduled, but if your closest USAF base has an 
altitude chamber, give 'em a call.  Does else know if there's a central 
nationwide phone number?

This is really excellent training.  You really shouldn't even be flying 
anyplace you need an oxygen mask without going thru the class.  (Please don't 
dump on me too hard for this comment.  I just mean that you should be able to 
recognize failures in your life-support system, and this class let's you do 
that in a non-hazardous setting.)

[Some years ago there were a few wave soaring operations that used to 
use the hyperaric chamber at the Air Force Academy as part of their
training, so I'm pretty sure there's one available in Colorado Springs
