The newer Slick mags are available with and without impulse couplers and it's usual, when using the "standard" starter key-switch, to use a mag with an impulse coupling on the Left mag position. In that case, you don't require the vibrator since the impulse coupling will provide a hot spark at the low cranking speeds occurring during the start sequence. Either system will start your engine, whether you need a vibrator depends on which system is installed on your engine.
