I had to do a lot of filing on my ES trim tab to get it to clear the nutplates.  It's very important that the servo travel doesn't bind the tab.  It has enough power to damage the hinge, not good for the servo either.

We had a long discussion on the ES list about using a shorter throw servo to eliminate excess trim tab travel that's not necessary for normal flight operations.  The idea was that if the tab ever had an uncontrolled deflection due to a switch or wiring problem that excess travel would make aircraft control difficult or impossible.  I'm in the process of going to the 7A servo to remove excess down trim travel from my elevator.
