John and Fred,
I'm tracking right with you guys. I think the Aeroelectric Connection
Z-14, combined with attendance at the SportAir workshop on Avionics and
Electrical Systems, purchasing good tools, and using high quality components,
were all ingredients in my effort to build a reliable, redundant electrical
system.
I have LED indicators on my panel attached to the two B&C voltage
regulators.
I think the dual bus, crossfeed setup is excellent. But the key is
the pilot needs to REALLY understand how it works. Unlike the Columbia
system, the Z-14 requires the pilot to DO SOMETHING when a low voltage
light comes on. Right now the procedures are all tucked away in my head,
but the right thing to do is document all the various failure modes and add
procedures to our POHs.
