If I had a choice, I'd opt for a gear up on a paved runway over the grass.
Less chance of the airplane digging in and flipping over.

  The ideal that Manfred would opt for a gear-up touchdown in the grass is
  defeated if there are berms, ditches, VASI lights stands and other
  obstructions in the way of a safe touchdown.  He did a great job.
