Jim, Don't know your exact situation, but rather than build the firewall forward on a dummy engine mount, you might consider mounting the engine to the regular engine mount, then making a "fake" firewall out of Plexiglas or other material. Mark and cut all the holes in the fake firewall, including those for the engine mount. You can also add marks for anything behind the firewall such as reinforcing ribs, etc that you want to avoid. Then build up the engine compartment and mount everything to the plastic firewall except the engine control cables. If your installation is average, you'll clamp a number of things to the engine mount tubes during this process. When all is done, carefully detach everything from the plastic and reattach the whole buildup to the real firewall. This works for almost everything except the control cables, and perhaps the magneto ground wires, etc, that you don't want a break/connection in. I've used this method on two experimentals to date and it works for me... Bob Pastusek
