When I was "breaking in" to my engineering profession, an old crusty, but
extremely wise foreman said to me  "... hey worm ... engineers and o-rings
are gonna be the downfall of this *&%$ industry ...".  He said it jokingly,
of course (I think ...???).  I remember sort of blowing it / him off (got me
dat diploma and know it all, right?).  Soon afterward the Challenger
exploded, and we all know what happened there.  So, every time I hear or see
the word "o-ring", I recall his words, pause and smile (well kinda ...).
Food for thought I reckon ...
