We used to get effects like this with moving objects and the moving shutter on film cameras. The shutter was basically a slot that moved sideways across the field, often resulting in curved prop blades, etc.
How does the shutter work in your digital camera (danger, ignorance warning)?

I guess it must be a trick of the light. Perhaps a shadow from the right stabilzer or right wing. Even expanding the image twenty times, however, gives no hint of a shadow or anything different from the surrounding sky. It was early to mid-morning, but I don't think the sun was low enough to cast a shadow up there. And the curve...!
The attached pic is cropped from the original 8 mp image taken at max telephoto with a 12 X optical Leica lens.
