Methylene chloride, also sold as dichloromethane (same thing) is the best solvent for removing the tape adhesive.  It's also superior to acetone as a cleaner and de-greaser.  There is some controversy over the hazard of using MC, but my personal opinion is that with proper gloves, occasional exposure is not an issue.  If KCI doesn't have the old black butyl gloves, which were OK, but not the best, Grainger and supply some that are MC resistant.  MC goes right through latex gloves.
 
One inconvenience is that it is not sold in hardware stores or the Home Depot-type places.  You'll probably have to find an industrial chemical supplier, and you may have to buy a 5-gal drum.  Last time I bought one it was about $100, but it's probably a lot more now.  Worth it, IMHO.
