You have a right to your time, your body and the fruits of your effort. Just because the mob rule of the majority has forcibly over-limited those rights, that should not stop pioneers from advancing the art of aviation by taking responsible calculated risks. To a large extent that is what homebuilders are all about, advancing the art and science of aviation. As a society becomes safer and more regulated it also becomes more stagnant and changeless. See: Cuba. The "freest" societies are also the most prosperous and innovative. It is a balance. If you want to restore freedom then elect people who respect it and always challenge the "safety at all costs" crowd. If you believe in the phrase "If it saves just one life" stop reading this now. Do not be afraid to take calculated responsible risks to advance flying. An example is the Blue Mountain EFIS. It was not nearly as good as the Chelton EFIS, but it is getting closer. Over time it will pass its dangerous phase for those who wanted to slowly and carefully evolve with it for a much lower cost. Less safe, yes. Safe if used within its limits in VFR, yes. Advancing the art of affordable aviation, yes. Safety is a balance. This group should be responsibly and ever so slightly on the innovative side of that balance. Stu Seffern www.LantzairFlyers.com
