330 hrs on the IV-P using the lean method about 70
degrees lean of peak, upon descending I retard
throttle 1 inch per minute or so, leaving mixture
untouched, I watch ECT for shock cooling and maintain
TT2 at 1650 and maintain that temperature with minor
changes in mixture control until pattern altitude when
before entering final usually go to full mixture. The
idea (I spoke with George Braly about it) is to get
the mixture control into the hottest range that being
a bit rich of peak but since you are using partial
power and have a cool engine you benefit from the
extra heat produced by the stoichometic setup. Have
not noticed any engine changes when left the lean
setup down to pattern altitude.
