Hi Fred,
I read your note about the above subject and must respond with comments
from my son, a lead mechanic for United Airlines.
United has found that spiral nylon around any type lines, stainless
included, acts like a dirt trap.  When the dirt gets between the nylon and
the line it acts like sandpaper.  The lines wear to the point of leaking.
I think your idea of using foam to stabilize lines is good.
