I have also had problems keeping the tape whole at the leading edge - it was
splitting but not detaching (very unsightly). I therefore recently changed to a
fabric-based tape, as used by the "cloth-and-dope" guys to cover the rib edges
underneath the skin . It's only available in white here in Europe, but so far so
good (but then no heavy rain yet)
