Ron I feel your pain.  I have been working on putting external antennas on my IV-P for 3 months.  Nobody wants to give much advice.  Here's what I have peened out of Ryan and Lancair Avionics.  The top antenna should be at the highest point of the fuselage so as to not block its visibility fore and aft.  On the IV-P this is near the door.  The lower antenna just needs to be 24 inches from any other antenna.  If you have to violate this dimension, make sure it is not relative to the transponder antenna.  They do not like each other due to similar frequencies.  All antennas want a 36 inch diameter ground plane.  I have chose to use the "paint on" ground plane.  You do not use the rubber antenna pads when using the paint on ground plane.  Even on the IV-P there is not enough room to get 36 inch ground planes on all antennas.  I have two com antennas, transponder and TCAD antenna on the belly.  I do have 24 inches from the TCAD to any other antenna.  This required moving the 2nd com antenna back behind the main gear doors, similar to the location used on the Columbia.  The next big thing is making sure the antennas do not interfere with "other stuff" inside the fuselage.  I'm still concerned about this.  Hope there is some new bit of info here.
