Barry,
The " upside down" oil filter is the easiest one you'll ever change if you
do it correctly. 1) Run the engine long enough to warm up the oil. 2)
Remove the top cowl and punch a hole in top of the filter with a nail. 3)
Drain your oil and allow the filter to drain down -preferably over night. 4)
Cut the safety wire and unscrew the filter.
I have done this many times and have never suffered even one drop of oil on
my engine. I'd like to see you do that on the horizontal filter mount of the
Lycoming engine.
