Barry,

 

The trick is to poke a couple holes in the top of the oil filter and wait about a half an hour.  You can also loosen the filter to let the air in, but not enough for the oil to drip out.

 

I made a mess the first time, then installed a quick drain valve.  They work great.  You can attach a tube that snakes down through the engine mount into a container.
