I'm also planning on putting the small auxiliary battery (24V, two alt, two battery system) on the aft face of the pilot side firewall, under or at the floorboards. Barry, Now that we have Jim White's IV-P flying, I have more advice/opinions. The placement of floorboards that were tilted to be lower in the back than the front has worked out well. Be sure you make some cardboard mock-ups to confirm that your feet fit and work the rudders/brakes easily. We also extended floorboards rearward to the side of the vertical instrument panel/hydraulic gear/flap cover, and then down at an increased angle so the fuel line could run in from the side and under the floorboard. The two lower engine mount bolts are accessible under these floorboards--in addition to the fuel (and your brake) lines. We put Jim's aux batteries under the right floorboard, but I'd do it differently next time. They are virtually impossible to get to. Also, they are right on top of the exhaust pipe. While the need for access is much higher during our current flight and ground testing, this is such a pain that I'm moving them in a more convenient location on my plane...probably the front face of the main spar box on the right side? I couldn't fit anything as large as a battery against the firewall in front of the rudder pedals without interference. You might check this. Hope all this helps. Bob Pastusek
