i have yet to become a pic of a lancair but hopefully soon.  one thing that i
will never forget is at snf a year or 2 ago joeb wrote down the number 90 on a
piece of paper for me and said never to be slower than that number in my ivpt
meaning 90 kias.  thus 100 on final seems very reasonable.  yes he was talking
about a ivp not a legacy but if i am a driver of any of these high performance
aircraft at gross and find that i have just overshot base to final and
wrongfully overturn back to get on final i'd rather be at 100 than 1.3xVs
anyday.

as an aside,  i was taught to fly a 180 degree banking base to final(for
visibility purposes) starting abeam the numbers in my extra 300 at 90 knots.
when i am light and at my home base of 3000' i may take it down to 80-85 kias
on final accross the numbers but at these speeds have routinely had plenty of
stopping distance to spare on a 3000' strip. yes i do have to replace brakes
fairly frequently but that is the nature of the machine.  and yes on occasion
when things don't just look right i will do a go-around.  but these things
beat  being low and slow in a bank(inadvertent or purposely) anyday!
