Peter,

I have noticed that the Legacy canopy, fuselage, and firewall are more
flexible and somewhat plastic than you might think.  I've seen our
canopy/fuselage fit change depending on whether or not we've been mostly
keeping the canopy down, up, off totally, sans gas springs, or latched.
Before I noticed this behavior, I thought our canopy hinges were bending,
too.  Based on this observation, I do recommend that builders not do body
work on the canopy/fuselage fit until the canopy has been sitting in the
down position, with gas spring struts installed, and the hold down latches
latched, for a day.  Anyway, if you need to make some tweaks to the canopy/fuselage fit, one way
to bring the front edge of the canopy down is to shim the AFT part of the
canopy hinge with washers -- on the aft bolts between the hinge flanges and
canopy frame.  This sounds strange -- but, this lowers the position of the
hinges with the canopy closed so the forward part of the hinges (where they
bolt to the canopy) pull the front canopy edge farther down.  This is not an
immediately obvious approach though it is a very simple and effective
technique.

Good luck, hope this suggestion helps.

Has anyone had any problems with the canopy shifting on the Legacy. My
forward edge has raised almost 3/8. Nothing has pulled out. bolts are tight.
My explanation is that the bracket has bent.  the canopy can be a sail if
left open in the wind.  Any ideas on how to shim this down now that is
installed? Peter Hebert
