Hi there,

The flox sealed mine just fine.  I think I sanded the tube a little so
it wasn't so tight fitting.  Dab some petroleum jelly on the threads of
the "donut" so you can clean any flox that might get on the threads.  
Install the drain after the flox has cured.  Don't put too much flox or
you risk plugging your drain as you described.
