I think it very sad and dissapointing that so many of the accidents that
have happened in Lancair Kit aircraft are related to poor judgement,
lack of training, or false confidence given the sophistication,
performance and power. These are even more reasons to really understand
the airplane and our personal limitations. This very fortunate group of
airplane owners must make their own commitment to make this a viable,
fun and safe flying experience. I certainly don't want to hear of
another pilot error accident, or any accident, and loss of life.
Together we must take the challenge to prove to the insurance industry,
flying world, our families, and each other that this is a great
airplane. Let's not confirm the question in many people's minds that our
decision to build and fly our own Lancair Kit aircraft was a very bad
mistake. It truly is my second love.
Perhaps it is time to organize and dedicate ourselves to an agreed
creed, mission statement, or whatever to see this happen. Sometimes a
written and signed commitment to ourselves and each other works as a
great reminder.
