A few things that had to be done between the firewall and the rear engine
baffle:
Consider the right side:
Near the bottom left of the picture is the firewall plug that carries the
sensor data to the units. The blue line is for the MAP from the cyl #1
primer port. Above those, the fuel flow sensor was returned to its
original position - having been moved by the placement of the LASAR controller,
now gone. Above that are two of the coils, used to generate the spark,
mounted to the engine support. I have two longer MSD ignition leads on order
since the harness supplied by LSE assumes the coils are mounted atop the engine
to a case bolt - not a chance on our tightly cowled LNC2s. Each coil
supplies the spark for opposing cylinders (1&2, 3&4) and I chose to
mount the top 1&2 and bottom 3&4 coils on the right and the top 3&4
and bottom 1&2 coils on the left. It is the long reach bottom wires I
need (48 and 51 inches).
Left Side:
The black ribbon at the left is the camera strap - ignore it. The
wires are fatter than aviation leads and I had to enlarge the baffle
pass-through holes. Near the top of the picture the left sensor can be
seen (just above the fuel pump). Maybe with all this open space the air
will circulate better behind the engine.
Top:
Before I reinstall the vacuum pump, both sensors can be seen.
Consider that when the impulse coupled mag is removed, the mag mount spacer
will also be removed. This means that the studs have to be replaced with
shorter ones. On my 320, they are part #61261, a 5/16-18 1.5 inch
studs. If you have trouble finding these, note that exhaust studs are the
same part number. They are to be torqued in at 25 inch pounds
minimum. I used 190 inch pounds for the sensor (mag) hold-downs.
Timing takes two people.
Removing the gear from the non-impulse-coupled mag will require a small
gear puller. Note that I bought the other gear from the E-Mag people for
about $85. Same specs, not certified. Remember that a woodruff key
is required and my local FBO charged me $9 for one - somebody has to help keep
them in business. Hmmmmmm..... I suppose one could use the couple-less
gear also?
