Hi group,
I've found a tip that i just had to share. Applying the Jefco tank sealer (as
we all know)is a major struggle. I've tried everything but found it nearly
impossible to get a pin hole free finish especially in the 35 gallon propjet
belly tank. To me this is critical to ensure a leak-free fuel tank. I've
applied it per jefco's instructions and I've tired re-sanding and applying an
additional coat after drying. Still pinholes can be seen with a magnifying
glass. These are not the type of pin holes you get from the carbon weave these
are caused by air trapped in the sealer itself that eventually work there way
to the surface. Finally I called Jefco and spoke with Jeff (the owner) and he
told me a way that creates an absolutely perfect finish. After you apply the
the product (first or second coat) use a low heat torch of some kind to lightly
skim several inches from surface. It's amazing really. The air just rushes to
the surface of the sealer, like bubbling lava, and escapes leaving the sweetest
finish I've ever seen. An air bubble eraser. I used a small butane torch I
got from Lowes. After 4 years of building you still learn something new ever
day.
