I am pleased to announce that, after eighteen months
of scouring Trade-a-Plane, dumpster diving behind Chelton, bargain
hunting and camping out on eBay, I was able to collect enough parts to
build my dream system. An eight screen EFIS (pictured below). It was a
real challenge getting them all in. The one on the far left is hinged
to allow access to the gauges behind it and the one on the bottom will
eventually display the gear, flaps and fuel selector positions (I
haven't finished the software yet). The gear, flaps and fuel selector
levers are now driven by linear actuators that are controlled by the
EFIS system. I wanted to integrate full FADEC but I ran out of funds.
For safety I have added a tertiary electrical supply in the form of a
deployable turbine generator that swings into the airstream when I
select that function on the 5th EFIS screen.
The only problem to report is that after the first flight my wife
noticed some redness on my face and upper arms. I guess 10,000 nits is
pretty bright. I fixed the problem by adding "Apply SPF36 or greater
sun screen to face and arms" to the preflight check list (displayed on
screen #6).
One question I do have, does anyone know of a leather care product that
will protect my upholstery from fading?
Regards
