I have built a Lancair ES.  It uses the same firewall and cowling but no retract gear.  So I hope the clearance is not a problem.

You failed to specify what type of Lancair you have. I answered for my IV-P, where the clearance under the oil pan to  the retracted nose gear strut is less than one inch. If you're building a different model, this may not be a factor...on the other hand, if you're one of those folks trying to shoehorn a 550 into a Legacy, you probably have more "fit" issues than the clearance of an oil drain plug...
