I went from unable to communicate unless I was 2-4 miles from most 
transmitters (I can't remember now, but I think transmit was worse) to what 
I consider to be normal ranges. Sometimes, but not often, a receiving 
station complains that I'm not clear. I never have trouble making contact 
any more. I have the antenna mounted several inches behind the main spar.
