Now that this list has allayed some of my worries about flying a Legacy, I really (really really) want to build one. I crunched some numbers in a spreadsheet to see how much a project might cost, and the numbers came out at about twice the price of the RV-7A project I was considering before. Ouch. The kit and accessory prices on the Legacy add up to a lot. Lyc IO-360 vs. Cont IO-550 is a big part of the difference, too. I'd have to save up for quite a few years before starting a Legacy project. It really is the plane best suited for my mission - long distance XC. But the RV is the plane best suited for my budget and desire to start building something sooner rather than later. (I still have some secondary lingering concerns about lightning and IFR travel in a Legacy, too. But that's a topic for another thread.) Man, I gotta find me some money. Maybe I'll go look under the couch cushions. :)
