Enough enthusiasm has been generated about coming to Placerville – so Steve
and I are setting 2 dates. Hopefully this will agree with the most
schedules, and the weather will cooperate for everyone. Saturday, March 5
is the first date; if weather is bad at Placerville
– then Saturday, March 12 will be an alternate date. Since it is
impossible to control, only the weather at Placerville will be the determining factor –
so pray the valleys will not be fogged in. We do not have an ASOS/AWOS
here – but feel free to phone us (530) 621 3408 home or (916) 712 1094
cell or (916) 505-6099 cell
if the forecast is not clear. Weather.com in
their old format used to reveal they were reporting what the weather was for Placerville as observed at Auburn. Their new format does not
reveal that. So in case they report anything except severe clear –
phone us for verification. Auburn
is 1000’ lower in elevation so sometimes they have fog and we almost
never do. And sometimes fog is as close as the western edge of Placerville – but not
at the airport! Well – nuff said about weather.
We would really like to have a head count so we can arrange
transportation to a restaurant. There is one really close that overlooks
the airport so the vantage point is outstanding. You can eat and watch
planes on final. It has good food as well. We live across the
street from the airport – so you can walk to our house if you want to
stretch your legs after your flight, or we’ll be happy to pick you
up. Our Legacy project is in our garage. An arrival close to
lunchtime would give those with the possible fog issue time for it to burn off
at their location – so I would suggest an arrival around 11:00 a.m.
Again – feel free to phone us if you can’t arrive until later and
we are at lunch. We want to accommodate as many as possible.
If it looks as though the majority would prefer to stay on
the airport for lunch – we offer the option of lunch in the EAA Chapter’s
hangar on the field. Our Chapter has a large picnic area – or plenty
of room inside if it’s chilly. If you have a preference, please
make it known.
One further offer – Placerville is a gold rush town
with lots of activities; skiing is a 45 minute drive to Sierra at Tahoe,
wineries are abundant and close, Sutter’s Mill is 30 minutes away; downtown
Placerville has lots of shopping including antiques and many art galleries as
well as several outstanding restaurants, and we can usually get special rates
for pilots at a historic hotel. If anyone wants to make a weekend of it –
we’ll be happy to assist. There is an Enterprise car rental location in town.
Looking forward to seeing everyone. Steve &
