 Dan,

On my way to Redmond on Friday 09/03/04, I left Spearfish SD but couldn't get
over the tops at Jackson Hole. I was up to 19,000. The controllers sent me
back up to Billings MT where I could get back down to 12.5 and just had light
rain showers. For about 15 minutes the hair on the back of my hand and head
stood straight up. Nothing in the plane failed. I have a glass plane with a
Navaid auto pilot and a VM800. I have flown in instrument conditions in the
clouds for about 80 hours of the 975 hours that I have flown my 320. I have
had static but it has never caused a problem.

I didn't build my plane so I can't tell you if anything was done to defray
problems. However, I am just as interested as you. One of the fellows that did
build the plane is named Doug Stoyer. Doug is an Electrical engineer. I am
sending him a copy of this letter and hoping that he can let us know what
insights he used to stop these electrical problems before they started.

Yesterday evening 09/07/04 I flew from Detroit to Cincinnati. At about Dayton
you could see the hurricane coming up from Florida. I had to make an approach
into Cincinnati. On the way back, 2 hours later, The weather had moved all the
way up to Toledo and I was in the soup the whole way at 7.5. There were no
static problems. The static doesn't always occur.

I won the Redmond race in the 320/235 mod class on Sunday. My speed seemed
slow at 189.5 kts. Perhaps the average altitude of 5,000 ft make this race
slower than the others?

To bad you couldn't make Redmond. It was nice meeting you in Detroit.

 Sincerely,
 --
