Open letter to Joe Bartels

Joe,

I'll try this one last time.  I have never asked nor do I care about your
uninformed feelings about Aero Superchargers.  I have never asked nor would
I allow my products to be sold by Lancair.  I build safe and reliable
products for the GA market and stand behind them.  I do have a problem when
you make statements about my product to people that did not even ask you
about them.  The person  you bad mouthed our supercharger to has a Turbine
Lancair IV.  He wanted to know when you were going to replace the Air
Conditioning part that nearly blew off the tail of his plane.  BTW is your
AC system certified?  Is any part on any of the Lancair kits certified?
NOT!!!    For your information certified parts fail all the time.  You are right
the factory Lancair IV raced by Dave Morss blew up more than once at Reno.
Daryl blew up at Reno last year and yes we had engine problems at Reno.
That, Joe is my point.  Lancair's and Daryl's engines were certified
according to you.  Just because something is certified does not mean that it
will not fail.  Let's talk about some non racing, certified failures.  On a
first flight, Don Goetz had a TSIO 550 IV-P engine fail 5 miles out.
Certified engine, not racing.  There has been over 300 cranks replaced in
Cont 550's and Lyc 540's within the last 3 years.  They were certified parts
but I do not hear you bad mouthing them nor stating a similar position about
their products like the position you just took on my product.

I do know all the issues with supercharging and pass all the information
on to my customers.  That is why only people I know and trust can install my
systems.  If you want to start talking about what testing and safety issues
should be addressed about some experimental aircraft that are flying today
we can have that discussion.  I do have deep knowledge about them but would
never say anything negative because it is your responsibility to let your
customers know if anything is unsafe about your products.

Again you put out misinformation, this time about Epic.  We do not sell a
1 million dollar kit, and  no one said that the plane is built in three
weeks, you know that is not so.  I think what was said was that it took only
three weeks to do all the body work and paint.  That Joe is accurate.  We
have parts that fit and require no Micro.  For example, the wing required
less that one pint of metal glaze on the leading edge of the prototype.  We
will need nothing on the first customers plane because they will have de-ice
systems installed.

You are right again, Lancair did cure and build some parts for the Epic
LT.  I even gave Lancair praise for the help you gave us during our press
conference.  Please treat me and my companies like I treat yours, with
respect.

PLEASE, STOP SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT AERO SUPERCHARGERS.  IF YOU CAN NOT
SAY ANYTHING NICE OR ACCURATE SAY NOTHING AT ALL.
