Matt,
My plane is painted and has been since prior to first flight, so I have
no experience with primer only. In the 120 hours of flight in this plane
I have not experienced any p-static. However, this plane has been in
actual IMC only twice: once in clouds & rain at about 60F and yesterday in
clouds with snow and just below freezing. I did pick up just a bit of
very light ice on the leading edges.
Regarding the instruments, all of the problem ones are
non-certified. The components I had trouble with are:
- TruTrak DigiFlight II autopilot – completely
quit, only backlight of display works
- Ray Allen (RAC) LED trim indicator –
completely quit, trim motor still worked
- VisionMicro VM1000 engine analyzer & fuel
gauges – froze a couple times and then died. No display.
- Jim Frantz AOA Pro – reset a couple times,
displayed garbage for a while and then blanked the display but backlight
kept working. A few minutes after exiting the clouds the AOA came
back on and operated normally. Passes self test.
The electronics that kept working include the entire UPS Apollo radio
stack (SL15, SL30, GX60, SL70), LCD clock/volts/OAT, strobes, panel lights,
gear pump, pitot heat, alternator & voltage regulator, etc.

Is your plain painted or still in primer? I
had p-static problems while in
primer, but the problems have gone away
since being painted.
Are all your problem instruments
NON-certified, while those that worked
flawlessly certified?
Hmmmm.
